The area is centred around the famous Selinda Spillway which snakes its way through the reserve, linking the outer reaches of the Okavango Delta in the west with the Linyanti Swamps in the east - a truly spectacular and unique landscape.
Selinda is upstream of the old Savuti system and west of the Chobe, so it has all the advantages of both of those famous areas but with the tremendous advantage of exclusivity.
You will be able to venture out on safari and see anything from lions, or elephants, cheetah and wild dogs to the smaller animals that are typical of the wild in Botswana. You will drive in the bush, dine under the stars and sleep under canvas, but you may also want to walk, watch birds or learn about plants. This is what you always dreamed a safari experience might be.
GENERAL PHILOSOPHY
The Selinda Reserve is owned by a small group of good friends who believe passionately in making the Earth better. Ownership is less about laying claim to a vast tract of land like this, than it is about taking care of it and making it better than when we found it. When we took over just a few years ago, 80% of the land at Selinda was used for trophy hunting. On our first day of tenure we stopped all the hunting and since have seen a tremendous difference as the wildlife has responded in kind. Elephants sense the change and now calmly drink as you pass by. Lion numbers have increased and in general the whole area seems to now breathe a deep sigh of relief.
Every decision made is one based on how we can be better, how we can enhance natural habitats and be role models in our society by looking after the environment, developing "greener" ways to conduct our business, and respect our communities' culture.
Soon, under this partnership, this model of taking stressed environments and surrounding them with compassionate protection and intelligent management will roll out across Africa's other great plains and the Indian Ocean islands. Watch this space for news as it develops.
